New website and copywriting for the launch of an exciting football academy in the heart of Doncaster, founded by professional footballers Alex Cairns and Callum Howe.

Intro

Kick on Academy is a brand-new football academy, founded by current professional footballers Alex Cairns and Callum Howe. Having played with Alex and Callum during my own football career, I knew that their values matched mine - namely that they share my passion for developing both the football player, but also the person.

Their brand story revolves around their desire to create a fun but professional learning environment for the community that they grew up in and helping young, aspiring footballers fulfil their dream of becoming a professional footballer by bridging the gap between grassroots and local academies.

After several successful taster sessions, they launched KONA to the world on 16th March and have already started taking bookings through the website for their first, official training session at the end of March.

The Brief

Our brief was to create an easy-to-navigate, user-friendly website with a built-in checkout system. I was also tasked with creating the brand story and defining the tone of voice, positioning and copy throughout the platform.

Alex and Callum were the perfect clients, as they fed into the overall vision and gave me the creative freedom to craft their online home from scratch.

The Work

Working collaboratively with both co-founders, I purchased the domain URL, laid out the website’s core design, established the brand’s secondary colours, collated relevant imagery and set up the payment processing solution within the website.

From there, I crafted the brand’s story, leaning into the unique angle that both Alex and Callum had grown up in the area and recognised the lack of pathway for Doncaster-based grassroots players, before they both climbed the ladder into the professional game.

The final step was to set up the store and inventory, enabling customers to purchase both one-off sessions and ongoing monthly subscriptions.

The RESULT

Joe understood our vision from day one and crafted a website that exceeded all expectations. We worked closely to define the brand and our story over a two-week sprint. It was important that the website, from both a visual and written perspective, reflected everything that we stand for. Aside from his creative knowledge - Joe has been through the transition away from professional sport, so has a unique understanding of our position. With that experience, he has given us so much valuable advice that we will use on our journey with KONA.
